Last Call Willapa

Last Call Willapa

Hi Everyone,

We are beginning the process of developing a new salmon management policy for Willapa Bay.  I thought I would point you to some useful information.  First, we will be undertaking a similar process as used in the development of the Grays Harbor salmon management policy.  It may be helpful to review that process including the timeline and meeting materials.  You can do that at this webpage:  http://wdfw.wa.gov/conservation/fisheries/grays_harbor_salmon/.   For future reference, we will be adding material to this page for the Willapa Bay process:  http://wdfw.wa.gov/conservation/fisheries/willapa_bay_salmon/ .

I’ve also attached a number of policy and guidance documents that folks may want to look at prior to the meetings.  We’ll try to have handouts available if you don’t want to print them up.

Recall the meeting schedule:

  • Oct. 25 - WDFW fishery managers will host an open house from 2-5 p.m.; Raymond High School cafeteria, 1016 Commercial St., Raymond

  • Oct. 27 - Willapa Bay Ad-Hoc Advisory Committee, from 6-8 p.m.; public input from 8-9 p.m.; Raymond High School Library, 1016 Commercial St., Raymond

  • Nov. 1 - WDFW fishery managers will host a public workshop from 4-7 p.m.; Raymond High School cafeteria, 1016 Commercial St., Raymond

  • Nov. 13 - Willapa Bay Ad-Hoc Advisory Committee, from 6-8 p.m.; public input from 8-9 p.m.; Raymond High School cafeteria, 1016 Commercial St., Raymond

  • Nov. 20 - Willapa Bay Ad-Hoc Advisory Committee, from 6-8 p.m.; public input from 8-9 p.m.; Raymond High School cafeteria, 1016 Commercial St., Raymond

  • Dec. 6 - WDFW fishery managers will host a public workshop from 2-5 p.m.; Raymond High School cafeteria, 1016 Commercial St., Raymond

  • Jan. 17 - WDFW fishery managers will host a public workshop from 2-5 p.m.; Raymond Elks Lodge, 326 Third St., Raymond

Also, we will be reporting to the commission multiple times in the next 4 months:

November 8th at the Natural Resources Building in Olympia.

    Tentatively:

December 13th, location to be determined.

January 10th, location to be determined.

February 7th, location to be determined.

I’m still working on the agenda for the first Ad-Hoc Committee Meeting, but recall that we are trying to focus initially on objectives that people want to see from the salmon resource in the bay, and trying to avoid jumping into the allocation issue from the start.
